- UAW Local 12 officials and members protested the hiring last month
of outside skilled tradesmen by suppliers running paint and body
shops at the multi-factory complex that will build complete
prototypes of two and four-door versions of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler
next month.

Comment! - What were they thinking? Jeep is supposedly about
tradition and they have been for many years, but this thing looks
WIMPY!!! I own a 03 wrangler and actively participate in the jeep
wave, but I can honestly say this new "thing" they are
trying to call a wrangler will not get my "jeep wave" of
approval. Wranglers are about rugged qualities and this is far from
rugged. I mean take the interior for instance... Would you really
want that to get wet and muddy? I wouldn't even think about hosing
it out. People buy Wranglers for their off road capabilities,
simpleness, easy modifications, traditions and we do not buy them
for all of the bells and whistles that they are trying to include on
this "thing". Maybe Jeep is trying to reach out tho the
"Soccer Mom" crowd with this piece!!!!! To say the least I
am very disappointed!!

Comment! - The marginally wider, longer stance would seem to be
acceptable. The new hardtop with removeable sections makes sense,
but it could have been built to allow for stadium seating. AS they
have not priced it yet, but did indicate the standard features, I am
guessing that "pricey" might be my reaction. At the very
minumum (inasmuchas my RAM Diesel - stick - gets 18/24) I cannot see
buying a smaller vehicle that gets under 20 hwy; therefore, without
a diesel option I would not buy one. And even then, if they can't
get the HWY close to 30 on something with half the weight, I will
still be shy. Perhaps they should approach Cummins to build their
small block diesel?

Comment! - i
think it was a big mistake to go to a v6 out of a mini van, even
though it is a correct 60 degree unit, and i hope they go and put a
diesel engine in it, hopfully a inline 5 or a 6 cylinder,(i suppose
a v6 diesel is fine) no four cylinder diesel please, they are nasty
sounding, and rough

Comment! - I think they ned to give a soft top
option........something that you can put up in a hurry to kep the
rain out if you dont feel likt getting wet. The 4.0L was a tried and
true motor, the inline 6 could have been made for fuel efficient. I
definitely would'nt buy the V-6 option, i think that killed the new
wrangler there!

Comment! - I was looking at the pics of the 2007 Wrangler. Very
NICE!!! The only concern I have is, what is that bulbous looking
tube thingy hanging where the skid-plated gas tank should be? Is
that the muffler?! I don't see that thing lasting long on the trail.
One good drop on the back bumper will squash that thing like a soda
can!

- "Meanwhile, Chrysler group senior vice-president of design
Trevor Creed said last week that a new Jeep TJ (Wrangler in the
United States) is on its way, rebutting early speculation that it
would be replaced in the lineup by the Patriot coming next year, but
didn't specify when."We will renew Wrangler, because
we can make it even more impressive off-road," Creed said. He
gave no hints as to its styling direction, but did note that he has
already worked on two restyles of the venerable off-road favourite. The new TJ, which may also receive
one name again for all of North America, will offer trail-busting
equipment as standard that serious mud hunters are now buying as
aftermarket accessories.
"We will be accommodating to all
of the stuff the hardcore guys do with the stock Jeep," Creed
said, making it easier for them to add larger tires and lift kits."
"I hear its not gona
have a soft top. That is stupid. I ike the soft top."
