- Lets hear from all the owners of the 2005 toyota tacoma, good,
bad? Thanks
10/27/04
- Recent Tacoma specifications from the Toyota official website
indicate a recommendation to use premium unleaded fuel in the V6
Tacomas. With gas prices the way they are here in San Diego, this
could be a real drag! Does anyone have any thoughts on weather this
recommendation should be followed or would these engines work just
as well using regular unleaded?
10/20/04
- Our hometown dealer got a brand new Toyota Tacoma at the dealer
today! It was a white double cab prerunner 4x2. Wow what a truck! I
was not too sure about the "plastic bed" but when you see
it in person it looks great and I think it will hold up to a lot of
punishment. The fit and finish is typical toyota. The truck is big,
But not like "bulky" Dodge Dakota. There is a lot of extra
storage space both behind the back seats and in the bed. The bed is
very functional looking with too many features to list. This model
had the sport package with the TRD, blistine shocks, hood scoope and
17 inch tires. The dealer showed me many options that
"will" be availible like dvd players, tonneau cover and
leather seats. Check your dealers! I will be trading in my 1995 1/2
Toyota Tacoma for a new 2005 Tacoma!

- Reader speaks out!! - "I agree with the reader on 9/24/04. If
all the manufactures of small trucks were to drop the regular cab,
which I understand does not give a good enough return, 20% or less,
in the truck market. Do away with it, use the extracab w/8ft bed,
use the 140 inch wheel base that toyota uses for the double cab long bed
(6ft.).
On
Autoline Detroit, Speed Channel, within the last two years they had
on the Vise President of Toyota North America, He said that he wants
to build the vehicles that the customers want. So call as I've done
for many years, called and asked for a extracab w/8ft. and doublecab
w/6ft. I will buy the doublecab (6ft.), and if and when I'll also
buy the extracab (8ft.). But also disappointed that it has taken
this long to get only the one veh.
Great site, Thanks
9/24/04
- Reader speaks out!! - "OK, Toyota finally releases specs on
the new Tacoma. Dissappointed, I will pass on this truck. I was
hoping for a small truck with true long bed, just like the one on my
'85 Toyata: 7 feet. Not interested in flimsy add-on tailgate
extenders, seven feet is the minimum I can accept. Everything else
is bigger on the '05, EXCEPT the bed, it's actually SHORTER by an
inch, than the previous generation. If it were in my power, I'd fire
chief Tacoma project engineer Yuichiro Obu, for this
oversight!"
8/13/04
- Reader Report ! - "As posted by a Toyota worker the New
Tacoma will include Pre-runner and 4x4 in double-cab. Manual and
Auto trans. And Yes there WILL be a Long Bed option for the
Double-Cab FINALLY! A new JBL 7 speaker sound system with 6 disk in
dash changer. New colors including Indigo Ink Dark Blue). Also
included 4 way manual seats, tow hitch,17 inch rims, limited slip
diff, downhill assist for 4 wheel drive, and fog lights."
4/28/04
- The site thecarconnection.com
has 2 spy shots of the 2005 Tacoma Double Cab. It is minus the
cladding as seen on pickuptruck.com
in where the Tacoma was spotted on an L.A. freeway heavily covered.
I don't understand why the big secret when the Tacoma has already
been shown to the public. The big question is will the new Double
Cab be offered with the 6ft bed like Nissan also offers. I have seen
many posts on this site hoping Toyota does just that. A local dealer
here in Phoenix says it will not be.
4/26/04
- There are some clear and nice pictures of the 2005 Tacoma Double
Cab in winter testing at The
Car Connection. Personally, I think that it looks a little
too long, but it must translate into greater rear legroom.
4/16/04
- At PickupTruck.com under
Toyota News titled "Could this be the 2006 Tundra"
Pictures of what appears to be the 2005 Tacoma Double Cab 4x4 or
Prerunner. Lot's of discussion on if it is the Tacoma or Tundra.
Truck is heavily cladded in black. I thought the Tacoma D-cab and
X-cab 4x4 models would be shown at the New York Auto show but no
such luck. What is Toyota waiting for. Are we going to have to wait
to see the new Tacoma 4x4 models at the dealers this fall. I hope
not.
3/20/04
- Just a couple of comments... 1st - the color of the pictured
x-runner is not going to be available from what i heard. There will
be a blue but more of a midnight blue. X-runner will come in three
colors... midnight blue, red and white... i think sliver might also
be a color. 2nd - the tacoma dbl cab, it will come in a manual 5
speed transmission. any other questions post em up... I work for the
nummi plant where the 2005 tacomas are being produced.
3/12/04
- At PickupTruck.com they
have published spy pics from southern California of the 2005 Tacoma
Double Cab @ pickuptruck.com. The web site seems to think that it's
the next Tundra, but they're dead wrong. It is clearly a new tacoma,
well disguised, but a new 2005 Tacoma nonetheless.
3/3/04
- Toyota Tacoma TRD rated top 4X4 in U.S. by USA Today. In fact 5
out of the top 7 were Toyota branded vehicles and wagons. What
happened to those trail rated Jeep's?
2/28/04
- Reader Report!! - Toyota Motor Corp. is preparing
to launch a series of trucks using composite plastics, also known as
sheet molding compounds, for at least part of the bed, beginning
with the 2005 Tacoma X-Runner. The company downplayed the use of
composites in its introduction of the vehicle at the Chicago Auto
Show, but it marked the first public display of a range of vehicles
using plastics in the bed. Thyssen Krupp Automotive AG plastics
division has built a plant in Tijuana, Mexico to make inner truck
beds for Toyota from sheet molding compounds. Toyota's use of sheet
molding compounds will mark an expansion of composites in pickup
beds Ford Motor Co. uses sheet molding compounds for the bed of its
Explorer Sport Trac. GM offered composite truck boxes as an option
on Silverado models, but has canceled that program.
2/19/04
- There is a good spy shot of a 2005 Tacoma. It's not the
X-trail sport version, but an Extended Cab with large off-road type
wheels. See
this link!! - The
Detroit News Auto Insider
2/11/04
- Now THIS is a valid question by one reader...."So, this new
x-runner looks just fine-and-dandy if you want an asphalt cruiser,
but what about those of us who want to go off-road? Will we be
offered something, too? And, must we wait till August to find out?"
Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc., will
debut the all-new Tacoma X-Runner pickup truck at a press conference
at the 2004 Chicago Auto Show!!! Click this link for more
information.
2/5/04
- This question comes from one of our readers .... "I just
wanted to check in with someone who might have good insight. I am
thinking of getting a 2004 Tacoma DBL CAB but am hesitant due to no
manual trans. I also hear the 2005 Tacoma will be out maybe in
spring. I was just curious if they have a DBL CAB coming back in
2005? Will it have a manual trans avail? I am not in any real hurry
for a new vehicle, just want one but am willing to wait. Any help
you could provide would be appreciated. Thanks.
2/4/04
- Taco fans, listen up. Auto Week's website just published pictures
of the new 2005 Toyota X-Runner. http://autoweek.com/specials/2004_chicago/
. It has arrived!
2/4/04
- There are pictures of 2005 Tacoma extended cab at autoweek chicago
coverage. And official www.chicagoautoshow.com
site has live show floor cameras (camera 4 has Toyota stand
visible).
2/4/04
- Reader Report - "The Toyota site has a section called
future/concept and the new x-runner is there. I talked
to the gm at my dealership and he told me that he saw the clay model
of the Tacoma last year and this truck looks identical to it.
It will be available in august along with a few other versions of
the Tacoma."
1/25/04 - One of our readers reports that there are published
pictures of the 2005 Toyota Tacoma in the Fall edition of J.D. Power
auto. magazine. It shows a 4-door version of the Tacoma that strongly
resembles the 2004 Toyota 4-runner. If any of our readers comes
across this photograph it would be most interesting to learn about.
1/4/04 - Happy New Year!! Have you seen the latest FTX Concept
from Toyota? Perhaps this holds some clues to look of the next
Tacoma? Unfortunately, only time will tell.
See the FTX Concept HERE.
12/27/03 - Reader's Report! - The 2005 Tacoma will not have the
v8 - this will not be available until 2006. I personally talked to an
engineer in charge of designing the new manufacturing line for the new
Tacoma. No v8 until 2006 for sure.
12/23/03 - Reader's Respond - Responding to the person's comment in
12/03 regarding bed length. I am likewise waiting to see if the
Tacoma will have at least a 6 foot bed in the double-cab( 5 foot way
too short). A composite bed may also be beneficial. Hopefully a
larger engine will also be made available like the 4.0 or possibly the
4.6 liter. The '04 tundra double cab is sweet, but just a little too
long for me at 270 inches
12/11/03 - "I just talked to someone at a local
Toyota dealer in Phoenix. He said the Tacoma will not get a V8,
which makes no sense at all. They put it in the 4Runner, and reports
all along have put the 4.7 in the next Tacoma. He also stated that
Toyota will not put the 6ft bed on the Double Cab. Nissan has that
option for the 6ft bed on there crew cab. Many people I have talked
to want the 6ft bed. He also stated that it would not be available
till next fall. All reports have said spring of 2004 not the fall. I
don't know what to think about this guys "information". A lot of
what he stated is totally different than what most of the info I
have been told, and have read. Go figure. I guess we just have to
wait and see which auto show it debuts, and the official stats at
that time. I know Toyota loves to debut vehicles in Chicago, which
is in mid Feb so we shall see"
12/11/03 - Reader's Report! - Directly from Car & Driver's
website:"2005 Toyota Tacoma Thoroughly redesigned, the new truck will
be wider and longer, approaching the size of a Dakota, with a much
more North American feel." I'm with everyone else, I hope they
beef up the power plant by offering a V-8 like they have for the
4-Runner. They've had the same engine (although awesome and reliable)
for 8+ years now, time to move forward.
12/4/03
- Reader's Report! - "I have a friend who personally knows the
owner of our local Toyota dealership. The owner told him that
within a year or so, the Tundra would have a new and much more
powerful engine. If that is true, then it would seem to leave
marketing room for a V-8 powered Tacoma."
11/29/03
- Reader's Question! - "Hello, Would like to know how many
people would like to see Toyota Tacoma double cab come with a longer
bed (6+/8+ ft.) Also Tacoma extracab come with a 8+ft. bed? I've got
over 300,000 miles on my one owner 89 pickup. Motor still going
strong, and the rest in good shape. Would like a double cab/extracab
if their beds would be longer, I've called Toyota many times over
the years about the bed lengths. If in 2005 they won't put longer
beds on these trucks I'll have to buy Nissin, small truck, crew cab,
it comes with a 6+ft. bed.
Any and all help appreciated. "
11/27/03
- "I have seen a spy Photo of the 2005
Tacoma Double Cab in the latest J.D. Power magazine. It is black
with the same front end camo treatment as the one seen on
edmunds.com. It is not on the J.D. power website as far as I know. I
have been waiting a long time for the Tacoma to be redesigned. I
have tried very hard to be patient, but I am starting to get very
impatient. Let's go Toyota and hurry the hell up!"
11/10/03
- "I actually work for Toyota at a dealership
that just opened off the road I live on and I had a chance to talk
with the guys that actually decide what cars each dealership is
allocated and found out that the 2005 Tacoma is definitely slated
for a facelift and it wont just be cosmetic it should be close to
the size of the current tundra (not double cab) and will be available
with our work horse 4.7l v-8 how accurate this is will be tested in
time but they seemed very sure about there estimates and they had
remarkably specific specs too... wink wink"
10/22/03
- "I am a sales manager for Toyota and the
new Tacoma is projected to be released in 2005. I can not tell
much more except that it will be based on a 4runner body and will
have the option of a larger more powerful engine."
10/18/03
- "JD Powers magazines has a snippet on the
new 2005 Tacoma. It includes a PHOTO of a double-cab Tacoma in
test-bed dressing."
10/11/03
- We have officially retitled our page to 2005 Toyota Tacoma !
For you Toyota Truck history buffs, we have added the following link
- Toyota
Truck History
9/15/03
- This is interesting...one of our readers has passed along a link
to a publication by ThyssenKrupp Services, which includes an article
entitled "Shaping the Future of Trucks for Toyota".
The PDF file can be found on this link - Whatsnews
Spring 2003 - the article is on page 13. This indicates
that the 2005 Tacoma will have a composite bed and three lengths
will be available.
9/12/03
- Readers Report! - "This is the 2004 Tacoma info page from the
Toyota Canada website". Go to Tacoma
2004, which includes a "what's new for 2004".
9/10/03
- Readers Report! "Toyota's website now has the online
literature for the 04' Tacoma. I cannot find one change other
than VSC."
9/8/03
- It looks like most of the info for the '04 Tacoma is now on the
official Toyota site. There appear to be little or no changes
from the '03. Go to www.toyota.com
under vehicles and select "Tacoma". We have revised
our Toyota Tacoma page title to 2005 Toyota Tacoma !!
9/7/03
- Readers Report! "I have been scouring the web for some
info on the 2004 Tacoma 4x4. My truck was totaled (98 taco) and I am
trying to decide what year / options to get. Of all the rumors this
looks to be the most official from Toyota...." For 2004
the popular Tacoma pickup carries over with minimal changes. The 4x2
PreRunner V6 and Tacoma 4x4 V6 models are available with Vehicle
Stability Control (VSC), while the 4x4 models now also feature
Active TRAC, a traction control system that's especially useful in
rugged off-highway driving conditions." I was praying
that the bigger style wasn’t out yet, I like the current
“lean” body style. The Active TRAC sounds intriguing also."
8/17/03
- Looks like the redesigned Tacoma pickup might be coming sooner
than thought? See this link - Toyota
to boost Mexico pickup output for U.S. Thanks
to one of our readers for catching this news!
8/15/03
- Readers Report! - "I sent a email to Toyota Canada and they
returned a email to me to tell me that the the Toyota Tacoma 2004
will not change for 2004. The 2004 model will be the same of
2003. They also told me that the 2004 model will be redesign
for 2005."
8/12/03
- Readers Report! - "Talked with Dealer. He claims the 04
Tacoma will be in September 2nd. This is not the new Tacoma version,
this is the same old Taco. New Taco will be Spring 04, maybe
later."
7/21/03
- A reader has alerted us to this link!! Consumer
Guide See "News" under
"Highlights".
7/15/03
- Readers Report! "I read in LA Times that the "
National Highway Traffic Saftey Adminstration Five-star test"
was admistered on 52 vehicles including the 4-Door Tacoma. The
Tacoma got the worst rating 2 Stars. However,Toyota spokesman
Christopher Tinto said the Tacoma missed the 3-Star by very little.
He went on to say that Toyota will offer (2004 models) optional
stability control to help it stay upright. Obviously Something is
going on with the new 2004 Tacoma. It sounds like they are ready to
use same 4-Runner platform and soon!"
7/12/03
- Readers Report! - "The GM at the Local dealer claims this
information is partial in reality. He claims they are going to
paint the beds in Mexico, not build them. He claims that
Toyota "higher voices" still say first quarter 04, new
Taco will be on lots. He also claims one can order a new Taco
in January 04. He also claims Toyota is HOT! to get them out
in Fall 04 and a little paint is not going to stop them. I
other words, lots of other places to have truck beds painted."
7/10/03
- Reader's Report - "Tonight I saw a new 2004 truck and SUV
preview magazine put out by Consumer Guide (saw it at
Books-A-Million) said that the new styling will not be seen until
2005. It also contained a sketch of the truck. Toyota had
hoped to make 2004, but the new manufacturing facility in Mexico
will be making the beds and is not scheduled to go on-line until
early Summer 2004.....which means the earliest we will see the new
style will be shortly thereafter. It confirms the theory that
the interior will grow slightly in size, as well as the engine, and
that it will be built on the 4-Runner frame."
7/2/03
- Reader's Report! - "I had a conversation with the GM of our
local (SLO) Toyota Dealer. He claims that Sept/Oct the Tacoma
will under go a few changes. He said it will remain with same
3.4 and no bigger in size. I shared with him the Web-Site the
Motor Portal has on the new version of the Taco. He went on to
say he realizes that the "real" new taco will not be in
the States until March 04. He said Toyota wants them to sell
what they have on their lots. So to all you Taco folks, don't
be fooled by what comes out in Sept/Oct, wait till march 04!"
6/23/03
- One of our readers reports a web sighting!! Here is his
information - "I Found this on the Toyota's Thailand Webpage
and saw the Toyota Tiger, Thailand's version of the Tacoma. The new
2003 Corolla first appeared in Thailand aka the Toyota Altis. I am
wondering if this is also a glimpse of our new Tacoma. This one
looks a little bigger and if you noticed the fenders look like the
ones based on the 4 runner. I'm not sure if it always looked
like that but I wanted to see if this could be any use for you
guys. http://www.toyota.co.th/thai/hilux/X_tra_Cab_4WD_lineup.asp
"
6/9/03 - This
just in, from Toyota!
If the new Tacoma is out in 2005, it will apparently have a
4-cylinder engine standard...read more HERE ---> TABC
Announces 4-Cylinder Engine Assembly
6/9/03 - Reader's report - "I
talked at length w/my local Toyota dealer truck rep who had
previously provided early intel re: the new generation 4-runner
which proved true...his intel suggests 4-ruuner frame and size
w/tundra front end and side styling...introduced in march 2004...I
told him I wasn't buying a new Tacoma until the next generation was
out because i didn't want the t-100 experience."
6/8/03 - A new rumor...the next
Tacoma may be released as a 2004.5 model, with a standard 4.0 V6 the
same ones the 4runners have now, and an optional V8. They will be
built on a 4runner chassis and will be about the size of a Dakota.
5/31/03 - Another reader has the
following comments - "I read the updated information dated
5/27/03 about the new Taco. The nice Toyota person said
only cosmetic construction not redesign. Does this mean that
Toyota will put the new 4.0 in the 04 Taco? Does this mean
that Toyota will redesign the 05 taco? What do you make of it?
Like the the new Tundra, why buy the 04 when Toyota is going to
totally redesign the 06. Know what I mean." The
news on the next-gen Tacoma is very suspect - will it be '05
instead? We'll have to change the name of our web site !!
5/27/03 - This just in from one of
our subscribers!! "I happened to catch a nice gal at the
(800) GO TOYOTA number, and she divulged a bit of hear-say that is
around her office. She said that there is plans of a change to
the Tacoma for 2004, but not a re-design. More or less
cosmetic changes. The only thing that she actually confirmed
to me is that the brochures for the 2004 Tacoma are due to be
released by the end of August, so we'll see something soon!"
5/22/03 - News about the next
generation Tacoma has been concealed very well by Toyota! So
far our searches for more have been fruitless, but we'll keep up the
effort. If our readers spot or hear anything, don't hesitate
to click on "Suggest
a Site" and fill us in!!
4/25/03 - We found a site by the New
York Times which basically "frames" the Edmunds
site. This still indicates that the Tacoma will be a 2005
model. Will we have to wait longer?? We've also posted
an older news article entitled TOYOTA
ANNOUNCES TACOMA TRUCK ASSEMBLY IN TIJUANA
which states that 2005
model Tacomas will be built there.
